SUMMARY:

The Mundaú-Manguaba Lagoon Estuary Complex (CELMM) is one of the most important ecosystems in Brazil, playing a significant role in maintaining the microclimates, in addition to its potential for the development of fisheries, recreation and tourism in Alagoas. This ecosystem has been suffering from the unbridled and ill-planned process of urbanization, which leads to the eutrophication of its water resource due to releases of different effluents in it, resulting in the loss of its sanitary quality and aesthetic aspect of their landscapes. Among the impacts detected recently, there was a drastic reduction of a species of sururu (Mytella falcata) and the emergence of a new species, known as white sururu, which has no commercial value aggregate or quality for consumption by the surrounding fishing community. In this way, environmental monitoring studies at CELMM are of paramount importance to assess water quality and levels of human exposure to elements potentially toxic substances, such as lead, present in different compartments environmental. This work aimed to monitor the lead content in water samples, sediment and sururu from the CELMM, as well as blood and urine from fishermen and the population control that lives in vulnerable conditions near the CELMM. The packaging, treatment and analysis of samples are based on protocols already established in the literature and the analytical technique for determining the total concentration of Pb will be atomic absorption spectroscopy with atomization in a graphite furnace.
