Humic substances from water and sediments of the salgado river: interaction with potentially toxic metals generated by the galvanoplastic sector in the northeast semiarid.

Cariri from Ceará stands out nationally for the production of bijouterie and semi-jewelry. This activity generates income, but generates impacts with metallic residues from electroplating. It becomes a challenge for the industry to remedy impacts with effective and low-cost techniques. Humic substances (SH) are organic compounds that occur in soils, sediments and aqueous media, formed by chemical and biological transformation of plant and animal residues, many functional groups in their structures give them the ability to complex with metal ions. This work aims to extract and characterize humic substances from water and sediments of the Salgado River and to evaluate the interaction with potentially toxic metals generated by the galvanoplastic sector in the northeastern semi-arid region. The results of this project will be fundamental for evaluating the interaction/affinity of metals potentially present in the Salgado River, which directly affects the mobility and storage of these contaminants in the aquatic environment of the northeastern semi-arid region.
