KEY WORDS:

Selenium nanoparticles; biotechnology; cosmetics; photoprotection

PAGES: 70
BIG AREA: Ciências Exatas e da Terra
AREA: Química
SUMMARY:

Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) have unique characteristics, such as antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antidiabetic activities, evidenced in several studies in the literature. However, when it comes to of biotechnological applications, mainly with regard to the development of products based on this material, there is still little information available. Considering the potential of SeNPs for applications biotechnology, associated with the photoprotective properties observed in previous studies, the objective of this project is to carry out studies that enable the development of photoprotective cosmetics for skin care based on selenium nanoparticles. In this sense, the SeNPs synthesized and properly characterized in studies previous studies, were evaluated for their photoprotective properties, by determining the protection factor solar radiation (FPS) and photostability test. Two new materials were synthesized, carbon dots (CDs) doped with nitrogen, in order to enhance FPS values for the development of the photoprotective formulation. The CDs were synthesized and characterized. The FPS of carbon dots was also evaluated, as well as the FPS of SeNPs associated with these materials, after optimizing the best concentrations for mixing, a formulation photoprotector was prepared and evaluated for its quality parameters. The SeNPs presented values of 10.3 to 14.6% higher FPS when compared to the standard 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone (BZF-3), compound present in commercial formulations, with FPS values of 7.9 ± 0.03 and 11.7 ± 0.01, for the concentrations 15 and 25 µg mL-1 , respectively, such values are in accordance with what is recommended by ANVISA. To the SeNPs exhibited good photostability (for a period of 120 minutes). In relation to carbon dots, the spectra of FTIR, displayed profiles with functional groups characteristic of carbonaceous sources and dopants, confirming their presence in nanoparticles. The Cdots exhibited the π – π* and n – π* transitions, typical of this material, which were observed at 241 and 346 nm for CDP and at 192 and 278 nm for CDU. The FPS values for CDP in concentrations of 600 and 725 µg mL-1 were 10.2 ± 0.13 and 12.11 ± 0.05, respectively. CDU displayed FPS values of 16.8 ± 0.06 and 20.5±0.16, for concentrations of 2000 and 2400 µg mL-1. These FPS values are also in line with in accordance with ANVISA regulations. When associating SeNPs and CDs, an increase in absorption was observed in UVB region, and consequently, an increase in the FPS values of these mixtures. These results showed that CDs are promising materials to be associated with SeNPs in order to enhance FPS values for developing the photoprotective formulation proposed in this work.
