In the grain producing regions of Alagoas, Yellow Ultisols and Latosols predominate, with medium texture, acidic, with high saturation by exchangeable aluminum; low levels of organic matter; low cation exchange capacity and deficient in phosphorus (P) available to be absorbed by plants due to the adsorption of this element with clays and iron and/or aluminum oxides in the soil. To achieve high levels of productivity in these soils, it is necessary to apply high doses of nutrients, particularly P. The inclusion of cover crops can contribute to increase the availability of P in the soil and improve the efficiency of use of phosphate fertilizers. A field experiment was carried out in the experimental area of UFAL Campus Arapiraca, with the objective of evaluating the effects of cover crops and phosphorus sources on yield, production components and nutrient extraction by corn in a no-till system. The dry mass of the aerial part of the cover crops ranged from 1.3 to 4.3 t ha-1. Sunn hemp produced more dry mass than the other species. Cover crops accumulated higher amounts of nitrogen, potassium and calcium and lower amounts of phosphorus, magnesium and sulfur. Corn grain yield ranged from 7.7 to 8.3 t ha-1 and was not influenced by P sources and cover crops. Nutrient extraction by corn grain and shoots was influenced by coverage and sources, with a tendency of larger amounts for the soluble source.
