SUMMARY:

This work aims to analyze the incidence of trade barriers on the insertion of Northeast agriculture in the foreign market in the period from 2010 to 2021, highlighting the consequences of the international crisis due to COVID-19. The approach to be carried out will be quantitative, since statistical indicators will be used to analyze Brazilian Northeast agriculture. As for the objectives, the research can be classified as descriptive and explanatory, as it will initially seek to identify and describe the trade barriers applied to the northeastern Brazilian agricultural sector and, later, it will analyze whether these barriers, in addition to other factors, determined or contributed to agricultural exports. of Northeast Brazil in the recent period (2010-2021). The choice of these eleven years for analysis came from the need to understand the recent scenario of exports in the region, above all, due to the growing importance of non-tariff barriers for the agricultural sector in the last decade. Descriptive statistical analysis will be based on secondary data obtained from national and international platforms on international trade, tariff and non-tariff barriers, among others. To analyze the impacts of such barriers on Northeastern exports, an econometric approach based on the gravitational model will be used. This research is still relevant as it contributes to the analysis and fills the gap in studies that assess agricultural activity for the northeast in the recent period, since, to our knowledge, there is no empirical work published in the last five years on this subject with this focus.
