Spatial hierarchical approach to the factors that affect Brazilian female entrepreneurship
Female entrepreneurship, Spatial hierarchical model, Brazil
The objective of this study is to analyze, from the hierarchical spatial model, how individual characteristics affect the determinants of female entrepreneurship in Brazil, using microdata from the 2022 census that will be provided by the Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Specifically, we intend to analyze the role of these individual and regional factors in defining the individual probability of becoming an entrepreneur in terms of economic and social characteristics for the year. In this sense, it is expected to have an impact on the entrepreneurial probability of women based on their unique characteristics: age, level of education, whether they have children, marital status, etc. The geographic characteristics associated with a woman's environment are also expected to affect the likelihood of becoming an entrepreneur. And lastly, there may still be space-dependent effects affecting women's entrepreneurial opportunities, which justifies the use of a spatial-level model. The main difference of this study is the inclusion of a spatial approach in the analysis of the probability of a woman becoming an entrepreneur. Therefore, it is expected that the study will contribute to the advancement of literature in the country.
