SUMMARY:

This work emphasizes a dialogue between Cordel Literature and Chemistry Education. According to Johnstone (2000), Chemistry is characterized by three levels of representation that demand a high level of attention from students for their effective understanding: macroscopic, submicroscopic and symbolic. Regarding Cordel's Literature, we base ourselves on studies by Abreu (1999), Chartier (1988) and Brazil (2018). Using qualitative methods, the main objective was to investigate representations produced by undergraduate students in Chemistry from the reading. To analyze the contributions of texts in this literary genre, the theory adopted was Johnson-Laird's Mental Models (1987), which explains that mental representations can be propositional, analogical, or a mental model. The research, however, stopped to seek to promote and analyze propositional and analogical representations only, and the Educational Product is a Cordel booklet, which was applied to a group of undergraduates in Chemistry at the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL) Campus Arapiraca. Through data analysis, we found that the more this type of textual genre is used in the classroom, the more easily the student can understand situations and contexts similar to what the text addresses, until reaching a point where he may have corresponding mental models. But we also identified that Cordel's structure can make it difficult to explain concepts.
