SUMMARY:

About 98.8% Brazilian municipalities have household waste collection and only 38.1% have selective collection, in addition, municipalities spend an average of R$ 130.47 for solid waste management according to the Waste Management Diagnosis solids. As schools are spaces for training and also for waste production, this work aims to
understand what contributions the use of the generating theme “Organic Waste Management” can provide in the science teaching process. Developed through the application of an interdisciplinary didactic sequence applied in a full-time school. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, focus groups, logbooks and participant observation. Taking action-research approach and qualitative research. The actions were applied in two classes, one in the 1st and the other in the 2nd year of high school. The educational product proved to be efficient because it demonstrated the approximation of the proposed knowledge objects with the expected ones, as well as the application of the knowledge learned with everyday life.
