Linguistic heterogeneity is a phenomenon that occurs in all languages, especially in speech manifestations. The language diversity originates different attitudes in relation to the varieties used by the speakers. These attitudes can be of appreciation or discrimination in relation to those who use them. In this way, the present research seeks to verify the students' attitude towards the Portuguese language; that is, the use of language in real situations, in spontaneous speech, both in prestigious and stigmatized varieties. Another contribution of this research is supporting the students with sociolinguistic theories as a way of combating possible attitudes of prejudice. Thus, this research was conceived from the question ¨Does the study, in the classroom, of the phenomenon of linguistic variation contribute to the reduction of linguistic prejudice? ¨. Its hypothesis is ¨The absence of sociolinguistic knowledge, especially linguistic variation, contributes to the development of negative attitudes related to linguistic prejudice, having as one of its manifestations the discrimination in relation to speech uses, which are far from the prestigious varieties; in this way, the scientific study of linguistic phenomenon in the classroom should contribute to the elimination of attitudes of linguistic prejudice¨. The general objective is to investigate students' attitudes and opinions about phonological processes related to linguistic variation and to apply an intervention proposal aiming to contribute to the sociolinguistic formation of the student and the development of attitudes to combat linguistic prejudice. The research corpus consists of questionnaires, interview notes and the researcher's diary. The theoretical framework is Labov (2008), Bortoni Ricardo (2004, 2005), Bagno (2004, 2007, 2019, 2020), Cyranka (2007), Faraco (2008), among others.
