SUMMARY:

Biology science cannot be interpreted from a physicalist perspective, as it deals with the
science of life, which is not always applicable to the inanimate world. Therefore, it is
recognized that the specificities of Biology as a unique science should be reflected in its
school teaching. Sexual education, addressed in Biology, includes aspects related to
reproductive health, such as early pregnancy. Entities such as the United Nations and the Pan
American Health Organization propose to research youth pregnancy rates and find alarming
numbers. Early pregnancy can be one of the factors contributing to school dropout, a complex
problem affecting Brazilian youth. In order to meet the proposals of the United Nations
through the Sustainable Development Goals focused on health and education, promoting
Biological Literacy (BL) of students on this topic becomes essential. It is suggested, then, to
approach Teaching through Inquiry, through an Investigative Activity (IA), in order to answer
the question: "How can an Investigative Activity (IA) sensitize high school students to
pregnancy prevention?" The research objective is to investigate how an Investigative Activity
(IA) can sensitize high school students to pregnancy prevention. For this purpose, the
Investigative Activity for Prevention and the action Communicate to Prevent, based on student
production of fanzines about contraception, are being applied in a 2nd year class of high
school in a public school in Alagoas in 2024. The methodology used was a qualitative
research approach, through a case study, using exploratory research. Data collection is taking
place through the IA and fanzines, and the collected data are analyzed through Content
Analysis. The initial results regarding students' prior knowledge demonstrate a nominal level
of BL, based on responses linked to terms without contextualization. It is expected that, as the
stages progress, the promotion of BL among students will advance during and after the
application of the Investigative Activity for Prevention, regarding the development of
preventive habits and knowledge that can be applied and disseminated by students, as well as
minimizing factors linked to school dropout related to parenthood. Additionally, with the
information generated from the IA application, the aim is to analyze students' knowledge
regarding pregnancy prevention and evaluate the application of the IA on preventive
pregnancy methods through the construction of fanzines in the Communicate to Prevent
action.
