SUMMARY:

This research is developing an approach to an inquiry-based teaching sequence (SEI) related to general concepts of ecology, using a sequence of investigative activities, through the development of a digital RPG (Role-Playing Game). The research, which is qualitative, seeks information about promoting the learning of students at a state school in São Sebastião, Alagoas, with the methodology adopted being action research, which involves close collaboration with participants, focusing on solving a collective problem that deals with a effect of increasing commitment and ability to understand ecology concepts. The study is exploratory in nature and aims to open paths for more in-depth investigations through the game design stages. The research will be carried out through the development of a digital RPG game using RPG Paper Maker, which is a game creation tool, free for non-commercial use, allowing the creation of 3D universes with many 2D sprites (components) and even 3D objects. using a simple interface available on all platforms: Windows, Linux and MacOS, applied to an investigation-based teaching sequence, which follows a predefined script, including: defining the game concept, establishing learning objectives, creating mechanics and narrative, character design, environments and technical development. The game is based on real biomes and seeks to explore concepts related to ecology. Data collection is carried out through a research diary, and data analysis is based on Bardin's analysis method, covering data preparation, determination, categorization and analysis and interpretation of results. It is expected, therefore, that this work will contribute to the development of new pedagogical strategies in the teaching of biology, especially ecology, using technology as an ally.
