TITLE:
PROPOSAL FOR INVESTIGATIVE TEACHING FOR THE SYSTEMATIZATION AND LEARNING OF BIOLOGICAL CONCEPTS RELATED TO BIODIVERSITY

KEY WORDS:
field class, diversity, wealth, Investigative Teaching Sequence

PAGES: 34
BIG AREA: Ciências Biológicas
AREA: Botânica
SUBÁREA: Botânica Aplicada
SUMMARY:
Biodiversity contributes to environmental balance and comprises the variety and variability of organisms present in nature, including diversity from the level of genes to biological ecosystems, configuring itself as the diversity of life. The study of this theme, with the use of an active learning methodology that focuses on problematizing issues, encourages the student to develop a leading role in the construction and/or consolidation of scientific knowledge. In this sense, at the Regina Pacis High School Reference School, located in the municipality of Palmeirina (PE), around 40 students from the 2nd year “A” will participate in this research project with the main objective of developing and applying a Investigative Teaching Sequence (SEI) involving theoretical/expository classes, field classes and laboratory classes, in order to contribute to the systematization and learning of biological concepts related to biodiversity. The research will be qualitative and data collection and analysis will be through observations of conceptual, attitudinal and procedural knowledge of students in carrying out the activities. Students, in the formal teaching space, will have expository classes dialogued with guiding problematizing questions for the other stages of the research. Field classes will be held, in which students will carry out a survey of arboreal botanical individuals present in two 10x10m plots. For this, they will be divided into two groups and each group will work in a portion for later comparison and discussion of the data. The botanical material collected will be taken to the school laboratory and students will group the branches into morphospecies, through the analysis of morphology/external appearance. After this step, each group of students will count the number of morphospecies found in each plot and will present the results to the other students in the room. With the mediation of the teacher, discussions will then be held about the concepts of species, richness, abundance and diversity. Students will be encouraged to present the results obtained using different tools, such as: writing reports; oral presentation to the other students of the school and elaboration of infographics. This project will have as a product an Investigative Teaching Sequence (SEI) that will describe the methodology used for students to assimilate new knowledge and/or consolidate pre-existing knowledge about biological concepts related to biodiversity with the absorption of scientific concepts for an effective learning of the topic under study.
