MOLECULAR WAR: PROPOSAL FOR A DIDACTIC – PEDAGOGICAL GAME FOR THE TEACHING OF MOLECULAR GENETICS APPROACHING ONCOGENESIS
DNA, Gene, Oncogenesis and Board Game.
Genetics, despite its presence in the daily life of society, is greatly misunderstood by most students and the general population, failing to relate certain concepts studied at school about this discipline. Many students demonstrate difficulties in understanding the meaning of gene, DNA and RNA as well as correlating disorders in the genetic material with the appearance of cancerous tumors. This project sought to develop a board game with the participation of students with a didactic-pedagogical nature, in a playful way and using investigative teaching strategies and active methodology with the use of an inverted classroom. We sought to help students understand concepts intrinsic to molecular genetics so that they could understand and correlate genetic structure with oncogenesis. The research was carried out by students of the second year of high school at Escola Sebastião Tiago de Oliveira, in the municipality of Jupi – PE. Students were divided into groups and instructed to research a type of cancer and discover the genetic factors involved in the chosen disease. Once the research was done, each group presented a seminar in the classroom showing their findings to the other colleagues. After the seminars, doubts and curiosities were clarified, and the groups were presented with the challenge of putting the information considered relevant in a board game, having as reference the game WAR from the manufacturer Grow. Completed game, we invited a group of students who did not participate in its development to play and give their opinion about the developed product. In this way, it was intended to contribute to a better understanding of concepts related to molecular genetics by correlating it to issues of interest to society, such as cancer.
