“PREVENTING SCHISTOSOMIASIS”: USE OF THE INVESTIGATIVE TEACHING SEQUENCE FOR HEALTH PROMOTION IN YOUTH AND ADULT EDUCATION
Helminthiasis, Schistosoma mansoni, Teaching by research.
Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease caused by Schistosoma mansoni. Infection occurs when humans, the definitive host, come into contact with water contaminated by cercariae shed by the snail of the genus Biomphalaria, the intermediate host. The school has the function of promoting educational actions in health, as it is a training space with social, ecological and health responsibilities. Educational practices aimed at prevention and control of schistosomiasis are of fundamental importance for students to acquire awareness of their role in facing this and other infectious and parasitic diseases. In this way, the present study aims to develop teaching sequences based on investigative teaching addressing the topic of schistosomiasis that will help teachers in their teaching practice, and provide students with meaningful learning that will stimulate the construction of scientific knowledge. The investigative approach applied in this project will be composed of the steps: proposition of the problem-situation; systematization of knowledge; writing and drawing; social contextualization of knowledge and assessment activity. The application will target students of the special modality of Youth and Adult Education (EJA), from Colégio Estadual Ary Silva, Itiúba, Bahia. It is expected that the investigative didactic sequence is an instrument that can contribute to the formation and application of scientific knowledge and the development of a critical, reflective, and preventive sense.
