ACADEMIC SPIN-OFF AS A MECHANISM FOR TRANSFERRING TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION FROM THE UNIVERSITY 

TO INVESTORS

The growing demand from the population in Brazil to absorb solutions that can provide a better quality of life, property security, food security, biotechnologies that facilitate the detection of diseases and generate protection as well as solutions that can positively affect the continuity of life under the Land are essential factors for the development of new lines of research, as well as the continuity of existing ones. The university plays a fundamental role in the country's scientific and technological development, being the main promoter of new technologies. The creation of academic spin-offs, which is understood as a company created within the university based on the commercial exploitation of scientific and technological innovations, as well as patents, new utility models and that use the knowledge developed by researchers during their academic responsibilities, passes to be a need to demonstrate the positive return to society from direct public investment in research. Therefore, the methodology used in this dissertation can be classified as descriptive, with a quantitative-qualitative research approach and the type of research is characterized as a case study of an academic spin-off focusing on AI applied to precision agriculture, developed within the Federal University of Alagoas, specifically in the Spatial and Environmental Analysis Laboratory - LANESA on the CECA campus - Center for Agricultural Sciences. And it brings as results the conceptual presentation of the characteristics of the academic Spin-off and how the entrepreneurial University environment can strengthen the commercial exploitation of technology-based assets, makes a contribution to expanding knowledge about strengthening the Professor-Researcher-Entrepreneur profile and seeks to encourage the university, based on the example developed, to encourage new academic spin-offs in the medium and long term.
