SUMMARY:

Technological innovations drive the increase in electricity consumption and increase the responsibility of countries to meet the growing demand for electricity with the least possible environmental impact, making the alternative energy market worldwide promising, such as photovoltaic energy. Although the search for this renewable source is increasing, the adoption of an innovation is a complex process and some factors, such as the lack of specific knowledge about the technologies, can limit its diffusion/adoption. Given this context, the present study aims to disseminate Alagoas entrepreneurs who work in this photovoltaic segment. For this, technometric research was carried out, based on survey and patent analysis, involving patent applications in photovoltaic technologies. Regarding the patent analysis, carried out in the Orbit patent data bank, the results show an evolution in the number of patents related to photovoltaic technologies, pointing to the United States as the headquarters of companies that own this technology, and is the leading country in its protection. On the other hand, it can be seen that China, a leader in the production and installation of solar panels, has a reduced patent filing, and it is believed that this occurs because the players are new to the market and do not have representative technological production. However, China has an intellectual property strategy, has a
highly consuming domestic market, and has government policies and public subsidies that place Chinese companie as important global competitors in the photovoltaic industry, and therefore deserve to be analyzed. In response to the research question, the result of the analysis of four patents free for reproduction in Brazil, provides knowledge to stimulate the development of innovative processes, according to the particularities of the business segment and the region.
