SUMMARY:

Operating in an increasingly dynamic and competitive environment, micro and small companies (SMEs) have sought innovation as a way to meet new customer demands andremain active in the market. Considering the relevance of small businesses to the Brazilian economy and the importance of intellectual property (IP) as an essential form of protection of generated innovations, the present research aimed to evaluate the relationship between IP and innovation management practices to be from an analysis of trademarks by companies participating in the ALI Program and to achieve this objective, it used the Design Science approach, combined with a methodological framework based on a quantitative analysis of data provided by Sebrae, to assess the presence and impacts of IP , mainly from the point of view of trademarks, in companies monitored by the ALI Program in the state of Alagoas. The results obtained from the evaluation of 193 companies present reflections on how the brand registration process and the management of this intellectual asset are inserted in the innovation management strategies of 31% of these businesses. In addition, it reinforces the presence of intellectual property as an important vector of potentialization for the organizational and marketing results achieved by the evaluated companies, which enables the generation of competitive advantages, increases the level of management maturity of the companies and contributes to the achievement of better results with innovative solutions. Based on the evaluation carried out with the present study, it became evident that intangible and intellectual assets are present in the context of innovative small businesses accompanied by the ALI Program and that trademarks, when inserted into innovation strategies, promote extremely positive results for companies. organizations that use them, compared to those that still do not, reflecting both improvements in revenue with innovations and the expansion of market operations, as well as increases in internal processes and business culture.
