SUMMARY:

The Technological Innovation Centers (NITs) were created aiming at the interaction between the
Institution of Science and Technology (ICT), in which is associated, with the business and government
environment, aiming at technology transfer, acting as an interlocutor, working besides the productive
sector. As a way of disseminating research with technological applications, already duly registered
with the INPI, websites have been developed by the institutions themselves, known as technological
showcases, as a way of bringing university/company closer together. Using a design project
methodology and analyzing more than 100 innovation centers in the country, it was observed that an
important tool is the creation of a visual identity. The development of the visual identity, linked to the
technological showcase, allows for greater visibility and dissemination of the technologies generated
in public institutions. Despite the institutions' concern with the originality of the visual identity of the
NITs, approximately 60% did not request protection from the INPI, including the UFAL, although one
of the goals of the NIT is the protection of intellectual property. The purpose of this work was to create
the brand, the importance of its use for the NIT, and its registration, for the protection of intellectual
property, was also discussed. The following tasks were carried out: search for the marks of the Science
and Technology Institutions and the existence or not of registration with the INPI; survey among UFAL
passers-by to verify knowledge of the existence of the NIT and its activity; survey of the UFAL brand
manual, aiming to maintain an identity that does not conflict with the institution's brand manual; search
for cultural and historical symbols to represent the city of Maceió; and, a bibliographic search focused
on innovation, NITs, and brand design. Based on this study, an logo was created for NIT/UFAL, which
reflects the core values of innovation and its mission, linked to the characteristics of Alagoas culture
