Spin-Off for the Transfer of Technologies of Bioactive Pharmaceuticals: A Case Study of Rubian Extractos Company
Academic Spin-Off, Innovation System, Technology Transfer.
We can consider an entrepreneurial university that which, in carrying out its research, manages knowledge that allows the generation of new technologies to develop business models, often through a Spin Off within the university, for the economic exploitation of its discoveries, through the transfer technologies, thus solving the research problem and enabling the generation of economic impact through the commercialization of new products, thus contributing to the development of society. Based on this, this research aims to investigate the case of the company RubianExtratos, a spin-off from Unicamp, and understand the path taken to complete the technology transfer cycle for innovation. The results showed us that Unicamp transferred three technologies to the spin-off company called RubianExtractos, for the development of these technologies there was an interaction between the government, through Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP), which through the Innovative Research in Small Businesses (PIPE) program financed the development of two technologies up to the testing phase, one being in in vitro tests and the other in clinical trials; the third technology, already at a higher level of maturity, the company that managed to launch in the market as an innovative product in the market called MetaBody, a medicine used for the treatment of metabolic disorders. In this way, the company RubianExtractos was born within the university, as a Spin-Off, with the initial support of the incubator and counting on the government to develop its products.
