TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR MAINTENANCE OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ASSETS UNDER THE MANAGEMENT OF THE 

FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF ALAGOAS

Innovation and intellectual property management have been gradually absorbed by public universities, since these institutions establish their role as a source for generating environments conducive to innovation, transforming the knowledge generated into a social economic value through partnerships with companies or public and private institutions. With the significant increase in activities in research and development to promote innovation, innovation policies associated with institutional guidelines have become important tools for the management of intellectual property developed in academia, especially in moments of reduction in institutional budget contribution. In this sense, the work aimed to carry out a technical feasibility study for the maintenance of intellectual property assets under management of the Federal University of Alagoas, where 32 Public Universities were surveyed, that had a number equal to or greater than 100 applications for patent applications. Therefore, searches were carried out in the INPI database to identify the total number of registered orders and a technological survey was carried out in the Orbit database in order to identify the main technological segments developed by these Universities. With these data, it was possible to obtain a general overview of the technologies, pointing out the technological trends highlighted in these institutions, in order to use them as a criterion for assessing the maintenance of IP assets. At the same time, a survey of guiding instruments in the maintenance of intellectual property assets of universities was carried out to identify the practices used in these institutions. And as a result, it was found that from the universe of 32 universities, only 04 institutions have specific regulations that regulate the maintenance of IP assets and, although these standards do not present a standardization in their structure and methodology used, the application of the tool brings benefits to the institution, both under the economic aspect and in the management of its assets.
