SUMMARY:

Animal traction is a very old activity and is still widely used in Brazil, mainly in rural areas, small cities and outskirts of metropolises. Despite this being a constantly viewed activity and the subject of several debates related to animal abuse, due to it being a subsistence activity, little is addressed about promoting the health and well-being of these animals or the regulation of these activities. With a view to creating effective public policies, it is necessary to study ways to promote the health of these animals, the well-being of horses and drivers, and the regulation of activities through the socioeconomic assessment of drivers, registration and regulation of carts and carriages, determining the minimum age for drivers, sterilizing females, especially stray animals, rescuing poorly treated animals and determining the load for each animal. To this end, the present study aimed to evaluate the means necessary to create a regulation for the state of Alagoas, taking into consideration socioeconomic and health studies of horses in the forest zone of Alagoas and compiling previous studies carried out in other regions of the country. state aiming to create a state law to regulate animal traction and cargo transport activities.
