SUMMARY:

Poultry farming is one of the zootechnical activities that has evolved the most in relation to the agribusiness sectors in Brazil, due to the efficiency in the production of chicken protein at an effective low cost and in addition to the ease of producing a bird for slaughter in a short time. . This also generates waste for disposal, which are the products sent to the compost bin (poultry litter and dead birds during production), the compost can last about 60 days for use and its indication of use is as an organic fertilizer. As the municipality of Viçosa stands out in poultry production and is also bathed by the river Paraíba do Meio where many families depend for their livelihood. In this sense, the project envisaged the use of the FET-Test embryo toxicity test to evaluate the ecotoxicity of effluents from chicken litter produced in poultry farms in the municipality of Viçosa-AL.

We used 30 embryos per test concentration, kept in 2 ml plates/wells, in a total of 05 embryos per well, including five decreasing concentrations and a control, evaluated every 24 hours during a total period of 96 hours, test OECD-236. The embryotoxicity test revealed that exposure to chicken litter extracts affected the development of Zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos, which when exposed to concentrations between 10 and 25 mg /L showed developmental problems considered sub-lethal in addition to be positive at concentrations that are lethal for 50% of the exposed population.
