PRENATAL DENTAL IN A MUNICIPALITY IN THE INTERIOR NORTHEAST OF BRAZIL: CHALLENGES FOR THE COMPLETENESS OF HEALTHCARE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN

Pregnancy is a period in which several physical, hormonal, psychological and social changes occur. The systemic changes in this phase also affect the oral cavity, in several aspects, in the same way that oral pathologies are associated with harmful events during pregnancy and childbirth. As well as prenatal care aims to ensure the development of healthy pregnancy through clinical monitoring, approach to psychosocial aspects and educational and preventive activities; dental prenatal care is an integral part of this care, through clinical care and prevention and oral health promotion activities that ensure the health of the pregnant woman and the baby in the intrauterine phase, in addition to the continuity of postnatal care. The objective of this study was to analyze the challenges of dental prenatal care in the city of Feira Grande, Alagoas, Brazil, with a view to ensuring comprehensive care to the health of pregnant women. This is a cross-sectional observational study with a quanti-qualitative approach, in which self-administered questionnaires will be made available to dentists working in the FHS of Feira Grande, interviews will be conducted with pregnant women assisted by the FHS of the city and a focus group will be developed with the Dental Surgeons. Quantitative analysis will be done by describing the data in measures of central tendency and dispersion, absolute and relative frequency and, when relevant, parametric/non-parametric statistics will be used to compare the characteristics of the sample. For the qualitative analysis, the IRAMUTEQ software will be used. Thus, the aim is to describe the sociodemographic profile of Dentistry professionals in Primary Health Care in Feira Grande, Alagoas, Brazil and pregnant women accompanied by the same APS, estimate the frequency of prenatal dental care by pregnant women in the city and list the challenges for performing dental prenatal care from the perspective of dentists and pregnant women.
