THE AGRAPHS IN TIKTOK: THE TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE OF BRAZILIAN NATIVE PEOPLES

Traditional indigenous knowledge is ingrained throughout Brazilian territory, highlighting
the contribution of these indigenous peoples to our culture. Through the popularization of the
Tiktok platform in video production, we can highlight a large volume of information produced
in this environment, bringing producers and consumers of content into diverse dialectics.
Therefore, it is possible to interpret these notes as an object of study in Information Science.
Such reflections regarding traditional knowledge and cyberspace make us wonder how the
traditional and technological interact in the mediation and dissemination of this knowledge
and how the characteristics/affordances of this platform influence the type of content about
indigenous culture that circulates on the networks. How do indigenous people take advantage
of these affordances to mediate and disseminate traditional knowledge? The general objective
is to carry out an exploratory study with mixed data collection techniques using a tool to
rescue hashtags and identify/select content present in the accounts of indigenous actors on
Tiktok, with the aim of understanding the mediation and dissemination of information that
surround traditional indigenous knowledge in Brazil. The specific objectives are: a) Identify
indigenous actors who are producers of this content through hashtags, using online tools for
this purpose in order to map and create visualizations of the circulation of this content in
cyberspace; b) Verify the mediation of content produced by indigenous actors and which ones
show significant movements in numbers, engagement and production of videos regarding
content on Tiktok; c) Interpret in a quantitative and qualitative way how traditional Brazilian
knowledge is recorded and disseminated on the platform by characteristics/affordances. The
quantitative and qualitative research methodology is carried out using aspects generated on
social media about traditional Brazilian indigenous knowledge. Therefore, the current results
highlight the existence of circulation and mediation of traditional indigenous knowledge on
the Tiktok platform.
