SUMMARY:
Academic journals have come a long way from the period predominantly printed to the digital period, especially open access in which we are and have a central role in the process of communication and popularization of science, but they are still in constant transformation due to the rapid evolution of information technologies and communication – ICTs, requiring the adoption of new tools and practices as determining or conditioning elements for the survival of journals. In this perspective, the objective of this research is to investigate the role of the social media editor in the digital scientific marketing actions of Brazilian scientific journals indexed in the Scientific Electronic Library Online – SciELO. The study is divided into two parts: exploratory research to broaden the general perception of the topic, using the online form and interviews with journal editors as a tool for data collection. The partial results obtained in this investigation to identify and profile the social media editor for scientific journals; explore the nuances of digital scientific marketing and contextualize it with the reality of journals. Based on the results obtained, the creation of guidelines and tools that help in the process of performance of periodicals in social media is suggested.
