ACCOUNTABILITY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: A CASE STUDY IN A PUBLIC UNIVERSITY

The information society brings new responsibilities for all social actors included in it. In this context, information is considered a strategic input capable of generating benefits for an organization. Public institutions are responsible for developing information policies and strategic actions capable of guiding the effective use of this resource. For civil society, access to information aims to maintain its sovereignty, social control of public policies that promote the well-being of the community and the preservation of political, civil and social rights historically achieved. Therefore, organizations that wish to have a higher level of quality must devote efforts to managing internal and external information. One of the dimensions involved in the information management process is the relationship with the audiences that make up an organization. It so happens that an organization such as a public university has different audiences, which can be called stakeholders. As the stakeholders are in constant relationship with the organization, it is necessary that the public institution adopt mechanisms that provide for the observance of governance and accountability, indispensable elements for achieving social management, since the citizen, as holder of public property, be aware of efficient service delivery. Thereby the objective of this research is to analyze the information management in UFAL's accountability process and verify if it is aimed at its stakeholders. In the methodological aspect, this research has a qualitative and descriptive approach. Considering the objectives, it is possible to classify it as descriptive and documentary. Regarding the choice of object, it is configured as a case study and uses targeted interviews and documentary research as data collection instruments. Finally, the technique adopted for analyzing and discussing the results will be content analysis using the ATLAS.ti software as a tool.
