SUMMARY:

The advance of digital technologies has provided several changes in the routines of various segments of the
health area. It is noticeable the increase in the number of Information Systems developed to assist in the
management of activities, in order to increase the efficiency of their services, as well as to promote the speed
in searching and retrieving information essential to the decision-making process. The modernization of Health
Information Systems has presented a growth in all levels of health care. Regarding the Federal University
Hospitals, relevant institutions to promote public health in the country, professionals work in an orchestrated
way to maintain the continuity of care and administrative services. In this context, the Management
Application for University Hospitals was institutionalized by the Brazilian Company of Hospital Services, which
has several electronic modules that seek to support the standardization of care and administrative activities,
as well as to facilitate the flow and organization of information in these hospitals. The objective of this
research is to investigate whether the professional managers of the University Hospital Professor Alberto
Antunes, linked to the Brazilian Company of Hospital Services, in the northeast region, use information
generated by the Management Application for University Hospitals, in order to contribute to the decision
making process. As for the methods and techniques, an exploratory and descriptive research will be carried
out, with a quantitative and qualitative approach, with the application of a questionnaire, which will be sent
electronically to the hospital's professional managers. The study showed that more than half of the
research sample uses the information from this research system, and also uses this information to make
decisions. New future studies in other university hospitals are suggested, as well as the search for
interoperability between the system studied and other existing and consolidated systems.
