ANALYSIS OF SUBJECT DESCRIPTORS IN THE INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORY OF THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF ALAGOAS

The repositories are fundamental pieces for the organization, custody, preservation and mainly the dissemination of information. They are the body of mediation of the information produced by the institution and its users. However, for mediation to be implemented, institutional repositories must guarantee access to their informational content. Through the description of documents with standardized metadata in order to guarantee the quality and reliability of the system, mainly with regard to subject headings. In view of the above. The present research intends to analyze the thematic representation of the subject descriptors registered through the self-archiving by the students of the course of Nursing and Social Work in the Institutional Repository database of the Federal University of Alagoas. The methodological route will take place through an exploratory study, with a qualitative and quantitative approach with a descriptive bias, seeking to identify if there is any inconsistency between the descriptors and if they were endorsed by authorized sources. Were 40 monographs were analyzed, 20 of each course, making a total of 149 headings, distributed in 78 in the Nursing course and 71 in the Social Work course. In this preliminary analysis, it can be seen that the rate of disagreement in relation to the authorized terms is very low when the system user has some help to guide them in the choice of terms.
