SUMMARY:

Public institutions of higher education have taken on an important role related to scientific communication during the health and infodemic crisis caused by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemics. In this context, social media have become the main channel for approaching the non-specialized public. The present study aims to analyze the scientific communication about covid-19 on the institutional profile of the Federal University of Alagoas on Instagram between 2020 and 2022. This is a descriptive research, in which the publications referring to covid-19, carried out on the institutional profile of the Federal University of Alagoas on Instagram, were qualitatively worked on. For the analyses, publications of an informative nature about covid-19, made between January 2020 and December 2022, were included in the study, excluding pieces that dealt with institutional measures for sanitary control, content produced by other institutions and invitations to the participation in events, even if related to the theme. For the scope of the discussions, concepts related to scientific production, communication and dissemination and the role of Higher Education Institutions in this process were worked on. Perspectives on the contribution of linguistics in relation to the production of scientific dissemination are also presented. Using textual construction techniques, supported by linguistic principles of sociointeraction, partially, analyzes and syntheses refer to 35 publications carried out in the first half of 2020, which met the inclusion criteria of the study. From the partial surveys, it was possible to perceive that the scientific communication productions of the aforementioned university about covid-19 presented, in general, good writing, meeting the cultural norms of the Portuguese language, with the objectives of the texts well delimited and adequate structures to the message delivery channels. However, flaws were identified in the adaptation of the content to a lexical repertoire that contemplates the different profiles of its 106 thousand followers, as well as in the use of textual support to avoid or remedy disturbances in the understanding of the content. These elements, partially perceived, demonstrate that the structure of science communication pieces can promote purposes that do not correspond to the genre.
