Faced with an increasingly technological scenario, where information is a necessary input, university atinos must be based on valuing archival information that reverberates throughout lhe institution and society. Federal Higher Education Institutions must provide information in an organized, accessible and validated manner to all interested parties, thus contributing to the development of new types of knowledge and preservation of the institution's memory. The research work resulting from this dissertation has the general objective of analyzing the activities of the Central Archive of Ufal, in order to identify its functions, flow and information systems, as well as its role in the institutional context. This is a qualitative study, with a descriptive and exploratory approach, using a questionnaire applied to Central Archive servers and semi-structured interviews with managers who work, directly or indirectly, in the management and administration of the archive. We sought to describe the document management process of the Central Archive of Ufal; verify, from the perspective of managers and technical servants, the main problems found in the organization and management of information in the institution through its Central Archive and identify if there is any archival management policy for documents in the university archive. The Central Archive is an element that reflects all the actions of the institution, it is a strategic sector that must contribute to the university and improve the performance of administrative management with transparency, productivity, speed and user service. It is considered that the general objective of this study was achieved, because through the results of the research, it was possible to understand the needs of professionals who work in the Central Archive and point out that managers recognize the importance of the archive and understand that the information unit is in critical situation, given the reality that the institution experiences. The results indicate that the Central Archive reflects Ufal's actions, but lacks document management, building preservation, systemic digital preservation and active transparency initiatives that help safeguard documents and institutional memory.
