SUMMARY:

Disinformation is a theme that has acquired notoriety and relevance in scientific research in the most varied areas of knowledge, among them, the area of communication and information, an interdisciplinary field whose object is communicational and informational phenomena in all their complexity. Misinformation is a phenomenon that involves the creation and dissemination of false, misleading or incorrect information on any subject, with harmful purposes to society. This problem has become increasingly relevant due to the advancement of information and communication technologies, which has created a favorable place for the circulation of disinformation. The area of communication and information has been acting against the phenomenon of disinformation, developing research and studies that are interested in understanding disinformation and its consequences. In this context, this work aims to describe the subthemes related to the object of study "disinformation" in the area of communication and information, through the analysis of theses and dissertations available at the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD), in the period between 2020 and 2022. Supported by a theoretical framework, the research discusses the phenomenon of disinformation, performing a bibliographical review of the subject and pointing out its main characteristics and issues of interest to the area. In the methodological scope, the research is characterized as an exploratory study with a quantitative and qualitative approach. It uses a bibliographical and documentary research and content analysis procedures to achieve the proposed objective. Analysis categories were created based on the themes and subthemes of the works analyzed, and as partial results, a sample of 32 works on disinformation in the sub areas of Information Science and Communication was obtained. Investigating the related themes with which disinformation has been discussed, highlights research trends in the areas, which finds its relevance for the establishment of new study and research agendas around such a complex phenomenon.
