SUMMARY:

The coconut breakers are groups of agro-extractivist women whose culture and income are linked to babassu extraction activities. There are several aspects of this group living and labor culture that can be objects of scientific research. This research is driven by the following questions: what is the nature of scientific production on babassu coconut breakers subject on the database Capes Theses and Dissertations Catalog (CTD/CAPES)? And what are the approaches discussed in those scientific productions? As main objective: to identify the nature of scientific productions about babassu nut breakers at CTD/CAPES, in the period between 2013 and 2021. Specific objectives are: a) To carry out a data survey on the scientific productions that investigates the theme “babaçu coconut breakers” in the Catalog of Theses and Dissertations - CAPES; b) Specify the focus of the theses and dissertations that address the topic. c) Check the Graduate Programs (PPGs) that research the theme; d) Score the areas of concentration and lines of research that investigate coconut breakers; e) Point out the study fields of the theses and dissertations gathered; f) Verify the geographical locations in which the theme is being investigated; g) Indicate the education institutions (colleges) explore the theme. The study is typified as descriptive research with documental inclinations, a quali-quantitative approach. For data collection, it was applied a survey gathering method. The research analysis is a compound of thirty-three records gathered. Through the specific objectives, the categories of analysis were established and segmented into two blocks. The first block deals with data related to the characteristics of the theses and dissertations, as well as programs and institutions to which they are linked, areas of concentration and lines of research, study fields, and location. The second block set up on the results and presents the approaches of the documents and it is segmented into the following categories: social movement, cooperative organization, and resistance of babassu nut breakers; notions of territoriality, land rights, and common use of babassu; gender, race, and identity; working conditions and health of the breakers and speech upon their reality. It was identified that the theme is constantly investigated in postgraduate, especially in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil, by different Fields of scientific studies, it was also identified that the breakers are portrayed in these productions as a social group of struggle and resistance. In conclusion, the scientific productions related to babassu coconut breakers in CTD/CAPES cover several aspects of this traditional population, and it is very important to make traditional people and communities visible in the Brazilian academy, especially in Information Science area.
