SUMMARY:

The research has the general objective of diagnosing whether the Museum of Arts of the Federal University of Ceará (MAUC) has been fulfilling its social role before society. This is a descriptive research, of a quantitative and qualitative nature. Its problem question is: has the Museum of Arts of the Federal University of Ceará (MAUC) been fulfilling its social role before society? To solve this question, the general objective is proposed: to diagnose whether the Museum of Arts of the Federal University of Ceará (MAUC) has been fulfilling its social role in society. The raised hypothesis corroborates the intention of the work: it is possible for a museum to play the social role in an integrated way. The theoretical framework seeks a framework in Information Science to elucidate questions about open organization, mediation and the social role of the information unit. Data collection will be undertaken at MAUC through interviews and forms, and on virtual forms. As a methodology and data analysis, the approaches delimited by Vergara (2003) were applied. The partial results obtained point in the literature to the museum as an organization open to society, acting at cultural and educational levels for internal and external users of the university. The schedule points out the data collection schedule in the field, as well as its final analyzes and conclusions.
