SUMMARY:

The pandemic by COVID-19 has impacted the lives of countless people around the world. To try to reduce the rates of contamination by this virus, social distancing measures were adopted. The psychosocial consequences resulting from the pandemic, associated with situations resulting from restrictive measures and financial difficulties, have potentiated some factors that lead to food error, especially in the most vulnerable population. Having adequate nutrition during pregnancy is of paramount importance for the health of pregnant women and newborns. Emotional and socioeconomic difficulties, as experienced in the pandemic, may directly reflect on the health and quality of life of these pregnant women and postpartum women.
Objective: to evaluate the impact of the pandemic by COVID-19 on the clinical and nutritional status of high-risk pregnant women who delivered at the obstetrics service of the Professor Alberto Antunes University Hospital (HUPAA/UFAL).
Methodology: This is a historical cohort study conducted with high-risk pregnant women who delivered at the obstetrics service of HUPAA/UFAL. The research was approved by the research ethics committee. After signing the Informed Consent, the patients answered a questionnaire about sociodemographic, clinical and anthropometric aspects (weight and body mass index records as described on the pregnant woman's card during prenatal care) and some data obtained by analysis of medical records. In addition, quality of life and mental disorders assessment questionnaires were applied (SF-36 and MINI version 7.0.2). After data were collected, they were tabulated and statistical analysis was performed.
Initial results: Seventy-three postpartum women hospitalized with up to 48 hours postpartum were invited to participate in the study, of which 37 signed the Informed Consent Form. Of these, 1 withdrew the consent form and 2 were removed from the sample after reassessment of the inclusion criteria, totaling a sample of 34 patients. From the initial analysis, we showed that the prevalence of obesity in the first trimester of pregnancy was 32.4% and at the end of pregnancy it was 55.9%. There was no statistical correlation between the occurrence of mental disorders and weight gain throughout pregnancy, as well as between BMI in the third trimester of pregnancy and the weight of newborns at birth. There was an association between lower and higher than recommended weight gain during pregnancy with the weight of the NB at birth. We also observed that there was no significant association between the occurrence of mental disorders and weight gain during pregnancy.
