SUMMARY:

The word adolescence comes from the Latin - “adolescere”, which means to grow. This is a particular and singular period in an individual's life, between childhood and adult life. The Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA) comprises adolescent individuals between 12 and 18 years of age. Based on Winnicott's psychoanalytic theory, adolescence is characterized by physical changes arising from puberty and by psychic and emotional transformations, which imply growth and maturity, although this takes time. Given the current scenario regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, which marked a social and public health crisis, Brazil adopted coping measures: quarantine, physical distance, closing schools, among others. Given this, the consequences of physical distance on the mental health of adolescents may imply a “second wave” of the pandemic. This concern
regarding the mental health of the adolescent population is marked: readaptation to the detriment of confinement and the need for a new adaptation to the reality naturally present in the period of adolescence. Based on the above, the general objective of this research is to understand the meanings of adolescence in a coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic situation for adolescents. This research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) of the Federal University of Alagoas. It is qualitative, descriptive, exploratory, and interventional research. All research was carried out online, due to the pandemic situation. For the constitution of the sample, the “snowball” (snowball sampling) technique was used. The research was carried out through an individual and virtual meeting with the participants. The instruments used were: sociodemographic questionnaire and Drawing- Story-with-Theme Procedure (PDE-T), with the insignia “draw a teenager in a coronavirus pandemic situation”. Seventy-four adolescents aged between 12 and 17 years and 11 months, of both sexes and residents of Brazil, participated in the research, 32 from the Northeast, 17 from the Southeast, 13 from the South, seven from the Midwest, and five from the North. For analysis, Theme-Story Drawings were considered, and all DE-Ts passed Bardin's content analysis, and the DE-T's analysis followed Trinca's recommendations. The interpretation of the results found will be based on Winnicott's psychoanalytic theory. It was possible to conclude until the present moment that the research was well accepted by the participants and allowed a welcoming space for research-intervention to the adolescents.
