FRANCISCO AND HIS POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTIONS THE FLOWS OF THE LOW COURSE OF
SAN FRANCISCO RIVER.

SUMMARY:

Recent studies have shown that climate change in
course may result in reduced rainfall and increased droughts in the Northeast
in Brazil, thus aggravating the situation of water vulnerability throughout the region,
especially in areas that already have a certain degree of susceptibility, such as
the case of the Lower São Francisco. In view of these events, it highlights whether the need to
to know more accurately the dynamics of rainfall in this region, in order to
support decision making regarding the management of its water resources. Aiming
contribute to the confrontation of these questions, it is proposed through this
present dissertation a study that will allow to characterize the space variability
rainfall in the Lower São Francisco and its possible contributions to the
flows of the Lower Course of the São Francisco River, from 1980 to 2013.
development of this research is based on the database provided by
Xavier (2016), which covers the period from 1980 to 2013, on a scale of 0.25º
(25 km) for all of Brazil. From this base, isohyets charts will be elaborated
corresponding to the monthly and annual precipitation values of 39 points
distributed throughout the basin. Knowledge of rainfall variability
will allow, in a first moment, to know the characteristics and the possible
trends in the spatial and temporal distribution of rainfall. departing from this
As a result, it will be possible to analyze the contributions of rainfall to the flows of the Lower
Course of the São Francisco River. It is known that the flow regime of the São Francisco River is
composed especially by the dynamics of the rains that occur in the
physiographics of the Upper, Medium and Sub-middle, with the rains of the Lower São
Francisco a smaller participation, which has not yet been characterized in a
proper. Therefore, analysis of the relationship between the São Francisco flows and the
regional rainfall proposed in this research will allow us to observe whether there are variations
of these flows that can be associated with the contribution of regional rainfall.
