The importance of reading for the formation and transformation of a society is indisputable.
This study aims to contribute to the strengthening of Literary Literacy, through cordel
literature, which allows us to associate reading, literature and orality. Based on work carried
out through a pedagogical proposal in an 8th year elementary school class, taking as a starting
point the contributions and foundations of studies prepared by (COSSON, 2020/2021),
(MARINHO and PINHEIRO, 2012) , between others. In methodological terms, it is an Action
Research, of a qualitative nature, whose intervention takes on some methodological
suggestions suggested by Marinho and Pinheiro (2012) and also the configuration of the Basic
Sequence of Literary Literacy in School defended by Cosson (2016). I believe that reading
classes in elementary school should introduce literary texts with the aim of showing cordel as
a builder of world views and culture, which has educational potential, since, in addition to the
social and cultural role it plays, through it, learn and teach. Through cordel, it is possible to
educate. I believe that through organized and systematized actions, through which cordel
literature carries important marks and traits of our history and popular culture, it is capable of
contributing to the formation of the literary reader
