SUMMARY:

Since colonization and throughout history, indigenous peoples have faced significant changes and great impacts on their health, due to the introduction of epidemics and diseases, brought by colonizers, which caused their early deaths. Since the beginning of the 16th century with the arrival of Europeans, the indigenous population has been facing major challenges and conflicts in geographic, cultural, ethnic, environmental, and especially health. The existing literature on indigenous peoples reports that around that time, millions of natives inhabited Brazilian territory and that they were almost decimated due to these factors. Thus, this research will seek to answer the following questions: what were the causes of indigenous mortality in Brazil in the last three decades? Is there research in the area of Information Science on the topic, indigenous health? What are the percentages of indigenous mortality in the last three decades? Therefore, the purpose of this study, its main objective is to study the mortality of indigenous peoples in Brazil based on the last three demographic censuses, carrying out a comparative analysis of them, as specific objectives were outlined: a) identify the main sources of information available on health and mortality of Brazilian indigenous peoples; b) Analyze the main causes of mortality among indigenous peoples in Brazil through government databases and literature available in the area of Information Science and; c) verify statistical data on the mortality of indigenous peoples in Brazil and carry out a comparative analysis of the last three demographic censuses. This information will be accessed through government databases, such as IBGE, DATASUS/TABNET, SESAI, SIASI, SIM, in the field of Information Science (IC) a survey will be carried out in the BRAPCI journal database, CAPES portal, IBCTI BDTD , as well as health information platforms such as BIREME, LILACS and VHL. The research has a qualitative approach of a descriptive nature concomitant with the bibliographic and documentary review, which will allow a more accentuated understanding in this context of the health and mortality of Brazilian indigenous peoples.
