Arecaceae comprises palm trees that have great potential for the agricultural market, however, the expansion of many crops is being limited by factors such as the presence of pest insects. Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is cultivated in the northern and northeastern regions of Brazil and has a diversity of pests associated with the culture, which, for the most part, do not have registered products for its control. As a way to minimize the presence of insects in the cultivation area, new control strategies are used, such as the behavioral one, which makes use of semiochemicals, mainly pheromones to control insects. Thus, the present work aimed to identify the compounds involved in the intraspecific interaction of Acharia and Caligo illioneus illioneus Cramer. At first, the collection was carried out in a planting area at the Agropalma S.A. Group farm, in the city of Thailand – Pará. The material (caterpillars and pupae) was kept in cages at the Natural Resources Research Laboratory, until they reached the adult stage. For both species, sensilas were identified by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and extracts from different parts of the insects' body (♂ and ♀) were obtained by extraction with HPLC grade hexane solvent and analyzed by CG/EAG, CG/DIC and CG/EM. For Acharia, histological analysis with ovipositor was performed. For Caligo illioneus illioneus androconia location. In Acharia, the presence of several sensilla was verified, with emphasis on the chemoreceptors: basiconic, trichoid, auricillic, coeloconic in both sexes. In the female ovipositor, the pheromone gland was located, which has a set of glandular cells, and the gland extract presents a female-specific compound, which, by electroantenography, electrified depolarization of the antenna of cospecific males. This compound according to kovates indece is suggested to be Nerol. While in C.i. illioneus the antennas presented several sensillas, especially: trichoid, basiconic and coeloconic in both sexes. In males, an androconial region was located on the wings and abdomen. The compound profile showed that androconia extracts have male-specific compounds. Therefore, this information brings data on the chemical communication of these species, to guide future forms of control with semiochemicals.
