SUMMARY:

Here we present a research proposal on the experience of otherness with people who live with some form of disability in educational settings. In this proposal, we reflect on issues that span the history of human societies, related to conceptions of disability. We rescue in the literature, historical matrices of these conceptions that guide, even today, postures and attitudes of different people towards a person who lives with a disability. The focus of our proposal is the effects of this functioning on educational processes. Based on an analysis of the main regulatory documents for educational services aimed at people with disabilities, we assessed that, although the inclusion proposal has advanced in respecting the rights of people with disabilities to educational services, gaps still remain, which prevent this proposal reach its full effectiveness. We argue that a predominance of the technical focus on educational accessibility and the neglect of discussions about ethics and social responsibility towards people with disabilities in educational settings impede the effectiveness of their educational inclusion. We accuse the lack of theorization about this neglect and propose field research, with the general objective of analyzing the relationship of otherness in educational scenarios. We also plan the following specific objectives: 1) to situate the relationship between the communicative process and human development in discussions about the social model of disability and equity in educational settings and 2) to discuss a methodological proposal for analyzing the function of otherness. The research will be carried out in a public school. Participants will be students who live with a disability, their peers and teachers. The methodological design integrates bibliographical
research, participant observation in the classroom and production of narratives by participants. To ensure that participants narrate about the experience of otherness, we planned the presentation of incomplete statements, which will consist of open conflict situations for participants to develop a story. The situations will address four different contexts relating to interpersonal relationships within the school: 1) the teacher-student relationship; 2) the participation of a person with a disability in group activities in the classroom; 3) the participation of a person with a disability in a leisure activity carried out at school; 4) the proposal of an assessment activity for classes that have students with disabilities; When developing these situations, we will encourage a simulation/imagination of dialogues between teachers and peers with a colleague/student with a disability. From the perspective of people with disabilities, the production of narratives from these same contexts will .be the procedure for constructing information about the experience of otherness with their peers and teachers.
