SUMMARY:

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it many changes. With the interruption of face-to-face meetings and new configurations of suffering, psychoanalysts found ways to sustain clinical care. Faced with precarious conditions and social instability, virtual care has proven to be an alternative in current clinical practice. The research focuses on new modalities of care, aiming to analyze the effects of virtuality and communication technologies on transfer. Does the internet change the way we love? What are the effects of virtuality on transference love? The question rests not on the possibility of the transfer operation, and consequently of the analytical work taking place online; nor prioritizing one modality over the other, but explaining the particularities of transference in virtual psychoanalysis. To this end, theoretical research will be carried out in psychoanalysis, which refers to transference as the engine of the analytical experience. Given the impossibility of transposing elements of the session online, the question arises about the “presence of the analyst” in this context. We start from the distinction between the love transference between Freud and Lacan – from the imaginary relationship to the subject of supposed Lacanian knowledge, as well as the difference between the absence of bodies and the presence of the analyst. It will be analyzed to what extent the presence/absence of the body can influence analytical practice and transference management; considering that for psychoanalysis the body is not the organism, but a body constituted by signifiers. To do this, we will carry out a literature review to understand the specificities found in these services and in the operation of the analysis. The partial results, obtained from the bibliographic survey, indicate the role of the presence of the body in  establishing the transfer, but also demonstrate that although the body presents possibilities for intervention in clinical management, it is not its presence that will guarantee the establishment of the transfer. Its condition is housed in the subject's relationship with the Other, especially in the clinic, the Other supposed to know.
