Memories of traditional cocadeiras and fishermen from Massagueira, Marechal Deodoro (AL), in the face of the socio-environmental impacts resulting from urban expansion

SUMMARY:

The Massagueira neighborhood, located in the city of Marechal Deodoro, Alagoas, has been suffering negative socio-environmental impacts caused by urban growth, especially since the 1970s. Despite the creation of conservation units that aim to preserve the natural characteristics of the region and To protect the local population from the negative effects of industrialization and urbanization, what is currently observed in the neighborhood is the intensification of the production of socio-environmental degradation, associated with the processes of touristification and real estate speculation, which affect local traditional populations more intensely, such as cocadeiras and fishermen. Consequently, these populations have their cultural practices distorted and their ways of life threatened. Located in the area of Social Psychology, which is dedicated to studying the processes of subjectivation in relation to urban transformations and considering memory as an important element for the preservation of the ways of life of traditional groups, this research has as its general objective: to analyze processes related to urbanization, production, preservation and forgetting of collective memories of cocadeiros and traditional fishermen from Massagueira; and specific objectives: a) discuss how the urbanization processes that affect Massagueira, often associated with real estate speculation and touristification of the place, constitute the collective memory and ways of life of cocadeiras and traditional fishermen in the neighborhood; b) investigate how urbanization processes produce, alter and erase memories and ways of life of traditional cocadeiros and fishermen in the neighborhood; c) discuss how the collective memory of traditional cocadeiras and fishermen from Massagueira tensions the formation of urban space, given the transformations of the neighborhood; d) produce records of the memory of traditional cocadeiras and fishermen from Massagueira as a mechanism to combat the political oblivion of these populations. Inspired by rudia, an artisanal fishing trap used by traditional fishermen from Massagueira to capture crabs, the proposal is to create and experiment with methodological tools and strategies as bets on the craftsmanship of knowledge production. To compose the methodological roughness of this research, conversations with cocadeiros and traditional fishermen from Massagueira will be used and the analysis of photographs and other historical documents present in these people's personal archives. As theoretical support, I use the concept of memory, according to Walter Benjamin. In this way, it is expected to produce critical analyzes that highlight the memories of these populations, through their oral narratives.
