BETWEEN ROMANTICIZATION AND VALIDATION OF SUFFERING: An analysis of beliefs and behaviors of women victims of intimate partner violence
Violence Against Women; Intimate Partner Violence; Belief.
Analyzing the phenomenon of violence against women represents a challenge that has been addressed not only in Brazil, but in various parts of the world. The Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women made in 1993 established that this violence has become a concern for public health, human rights and social policy. Brazilian academic productions on violence against women began in the 1980s and established one of the primary areas of feminist studies in the country. This work begins with a chapter on the normalization of violence against women, in which the impacts of intimate partner violence on the lives of victims and on society are also presented, demonstrating that this type of violence, despite occurring within the intimate relations, is a public problem. In the following chapter, there is a presentation of the theoretical model that will conduct the investigation carried out in this dissertation, we present the variables that make up the Theory of Planned Action, the areas of study that use this theoretical model and how beliefs relate to execution of certain behavior. In the third chapter, we present a systematic review that aimed to investigate the relationship between the beliefs of women victims of IPV and their behavior in the abusive scenario. The fourth chapter will investigate the speeches of women victims of IPV to analyze their beliefs about the abusive dynamics of their relationships and the strategies used by them to face the violence scenario. In the fifth chapter we will present a general discussion based on a comparative analysis of the results from chapters III and IV.
