The comedy of sexes online: a study about the passion in catfish
Catfish, Passion, Semblant and Cyberspace.
The present study aims to investigate love relationships in cyberspace, analyzing a phenomenon called catfish. This term appears for people who use fakes profiles on networks and maintain loving relationships through these profiles. Coupled with the act of deceiving someone, the catfish is a phenomenon of social networks regarding the image of the body itself, where there is a disparity in the image of who uses the profile and how that image is featured in the profile. From a film analysis of a reality show that has the same name of the phenomenon, this dissertation discusses love in cyberspace from an conceptual operator, present in the teaching of Jacques Lacan, the concept of semblant. So, the episodes were selected and analyzed how the semblants appear throughout the episodes. Nevertheless, the research aims to understand the catfish phenomenon in the light of the concept of countenance.
