The Intention of Seeking Psychological Service in the Military Police of the State of Alagoas

Throughout our lives, we go through many stressful situations. In environments in which the very nature of work is stressful, in addition to the organizational structure that contributes to occupational stress, psychological distress is accentuated. One of the professions that fit this profile is the military policeman, who deals daily with situations of violence. In this scenario, the monitoring of a professional psychologist is necessary for the prevention and intervention of works focused on the mental health of the military police. The present work has as objective to analyze the intention of the search of the psychological service in the Military Police of the state of Alagoas, from the Theory of the Planned Action; in addition, to identify positive and negative beliefs about the demand for psychological care in the Military Police; as well as analyzing the relationship between beliefs and the intention to seek psychological care on the partof military police officers. The dissertation consists of two chapters. In the first chapter, we have ademographic study on the psychology service that was implemented, and how it is being offered today, in the military police of the state of Alagoas. In the second chapter, we present a qualitative work through field research; through which semi-structured interviews will be carried out, based on the theoretical framework of the Theory of Planned Action, with the objective of analyzing the police officers' beliefs regarding the demand for the psychology service offered in that unit of the corporation. The expected results of this research are to obtain relevant information for public policies aimed at mental health, in the scope of prevention and intervention, of public security in the state.
