SUMMARY:

The psychological practices in emergency and disaster situations, specially during the COVID-19 pandemic, have been reconfigured because of challenges for the understanding of the emerging phenomena and their realization. We aim to understand the experience of the long distance psychological care and support realized by the volunteering psychologists of the “Grupo Abrigo Humano” (“Human Shelter Group”), from various regions of Brazil, which have engaged to provide services in the form of online psychological duty, during the COVID-19 emergency in the state of Amazonas, on what was called the “Oxygen Crisis”. The theoretical- methodological references of this research were based on social constructionism, devolving a relational research methodology, in a dialogic way, for the construction of information. The interlocutors for the research are: academic literature, preparatory training courses and refresher courses for the service, and online conversation circles with invited psychologists who participated in the experience. It is hoped that the study will contribute to providing reflections on the actions of psychology in extreme situations, by highlighting the remote care provided by psychologists in the state of Amazonas during the COVID-19 pandemic.
