SUMMARY:

This research aims at understanding the meanings produced from of the experiences of heart transplantation by people with chronic heart disease and their families. To this end, online interviews were conducted with transplant users and their families. The methodological and theoretical framework used was social constructionism, with an emphasis on discursive practices and the production of meanings in dialogue with Haraway’s thinking. The sets of meanings were identified from the articulations, flows and intensities. In the articulations, we identify the bonds established throughout the heart transplant process. The articulations are diverse, among users, family members, health professionals, institutions, donors, friends, spirituality, work and society. In the flows, we characterize the paths taken, permanence, continuities, transformations and ruptures that occur during the heart transplant process and that are related to public policies, access to medication, among others. The intensities discuss the effects produced before and after heart transplantation. The intensities speak of the multiplicity of feelings experienced. We realize the importance of organ donation, as well as the continuity of assistance to users after heart transplantation and their participation in the construction of public policies, defining the follow-up to users in a more transparent and detailed way
