SUMMARY:

Violence against children is a serious public health problem, causing damage to the
process of physical and psychological development in the short, medium and long term.
Preventing violence is the best way to face and combat this problem. The main objective
of this research was to analyze preventive strategies regarding the phenomenon of
violence against children, with the children themselves, and the specific objectives were:
1) Understand the conception of children about the phenomenon of violence against
children; 2) to analyze the strategies to inform and sensitize the children's identification of
the types of violence that can be directed at them and/or their peers, and knowledge of
places and people that can be used in cases of violence; and 3) analyze the products
created in a playful way by the children about the prevention of violence against children.
This research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) of the Federal
University of Alagoas and it is an action research with a qualitative approach and
interventional methodology, which uses playful workshops. Regarding data gathering, the
following instruments were used: form for characterizing the socioeconomic profile,
children's school records, form related to the theme of violence, workshop evaluation
form, researcher's and assistants' field diary, audio recordings of the workshops, pictures
of children's productions and Drawing-Story Procedure with Theme. Six playful
workshops were held at the school, in which 23 children participated. Initially, the children
brought drawings and stories linked mainly to the physical aspects of violence (physical
violence), and was possible throughout the meetings to expand these conceptions and to
include in the discussion the prevention of psychological violence, sexual violence and
negligence, encouraged by the researcher, but also bullying and racism, proposed by the
children. Through the workshops, a safe space for communication and expression of
conceptions and preventive strategies was provided to the participants, and it was
noticed that the children held on the information discussed in the group to add to their
previous knowledge, or reformulate it. Thus, the drawing, the game, the storytelling, the
group constructions and the creation of the one book allowed the children to express their
opinions and expand their conceptions and knowledge on the subject, and the workshops
appear as a possible resource to enable their expressions, creativity and leadership.
