SUMMARY:

Context: Burnout is a syndrome resulting from chronic stress that is not properly managed in the
work environment, characterized by three dimensions: feelings of exhaustion, negative feelings
or cynicism related to work, and a sense of inefficacy and lack of accomplishment. The Maslach
Burnout Inventory (MBI) is used for the identification of Burnout Syndrome in the workplace, and
it is one of the internationally recognized and applied psychometric instruments. Objective: The
systematic review with meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the
Maslach Burnout Inventory - General Survey (MBI-GS). Method: The search was conducted in
national and international literature. Four literature databases were considered: EMBASE,
MEDLINE, Web of Science, and APA PsycInfo. The PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for
Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) method was used, and the PICOS (Population,
Intervention, Comparison(s), Outcome, and Study design) strategy was used to guide the
research question. Results: The search strategy yielded 10,994 references, with 205 studies
selected for full-text screening. Analysis and data extraction are currently ongoing.
