ETHNIC IDENTITY AND ASSOCIATION IN THE QUILOMBOLA COMMUNITY CARRASCO- AL
Ethnic identity. Associativism. Conflicts. Carrasco Community. Arapiraca AL.
In this dissertation, I developed reflections on the process of construction of ethnic identity in the Carrasco quilombola community, located in the interior of Alagoas. Organized into three chapters, in addition to the introduction and conclusion, I sought to conduct a dialogue between the material produced in the fieldwork and the anthropological discussions that deal with ethnic identity, conflict and territory, proposing an analysis that follows the processual development of identity, considering how I mark the certification of the community by the Fundação Cultural Palmares. Understanding the family and ethnicity as organizational principles, I try to understand how the dynamics of social relationships, such as family, work and neighborhood, were affected by the development and strengthening of the ethnic frontier. In this way, I focused on the process of recognizing and certifying Carrasco's identity and the discussions on the ethnic group and quilombola communities in Brazil. I tried to present a little of the families that figure in the disputes of the Associations active in the community, their alliances and articulations, as well as the conflicts over the land issue, which I understand as effects of identification that affect the strengthening of the ethnic border. This dissertation, as well as part of the fieldwork material, was produced during the Coronavirus pandemic period, during the years 2020 and 2021, all this work being crossed by the conditions required by this period that we are still going through.
